On special request of the European Commission's DG Research, the European Research Council (ERC) and the Czech EU Council Presidency, the CRI team of editors has produced a brand-new range of thematic supplements, published in up to five EU languages. Right on time for key events surrounding the Czech EU Council Presidency, Czech has become one of the publishing languages.
The research*eu supplement on regional initiatives, No 2 in the series, explains the reader why regions and regional research and innovation matter so much for Europe, for competitiveness and global progress. DG Research put a spotlight on success stories within its 'Regions of Knowledge' and 'Research Potential' programmes. Regional and scientific advisers, academics and project coordinators provide the latest news on regional research and innovation. A substantial part of the content was drafted by the CRI editor in charge of the publication.
The research*eu supplement on the ERC, No 3 in the series, looks at this recently created European research funding body. The European Research Council funds research carried out in the EU through two funding schemes: the Starting Grants and the Advanced Grants. These two funding schemes, and how researchers can apply for them, are described in the publication. Interviews with high-ranking ERC officials were carried out to outline the future development of research funding in the EU.
Finally, the supplement on the Czech EU Council Presidency, No 4 in the series, is part of a regular set of publications dedicated to research topics under the different EU Council presidencies. In order to make sure that the presidencies' messages are accurately reflected, these publications are produced in close cooperation with national institutions. The Czech EU Council Presidency focused on assessing the results of the recently concluded Sixth Framework Programme for research (FP6).
CRI being the main contractor for editing in the CORDIS contract, the research*eu focus supplements were produced on behalf of the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities (OPOCE).
