New external trade indices

New external trade indices
Project Name
New external trade indices (NICE/SATIE)
Client
European Commission, Eurostat
Country
Luxembourg
Dates
2002–ongoing
Project description
Within this project, an SAS application was developed to collect and treat statistical data and produce indices for the EU’s external trade. At first, the application was called NICE (‘Nouveaux indices du commerce extérieur’) and used to produce value and volume indices only. When a new module for data treatment was integrated, the application’s name changed to SATIE (‘Seasonal adjustment, trends and indices for the external trade’). The new module is used to extract basic time series, on which seasonal adjustment processes are applied. The series derived are loaded again into the publication database. The current SATIE application extracts nearly 20 million record combinations from the Comext reference database each month. CRI continuously provides: evolutive and corrective maintenance of the application; technical support; improved methodologies for statistical processing; assistance with the monthly production of external trade indices.
